Two Poems: Helen Vitoria

In Poetry on November 1, 2011 at 10:53 pm

(two poems in the form of an interview)

elephant kinetics

What did he say?

Lions take calves or weak individuals, he said in a murmur

Where were you?

Johannesburg, where his father died

It was snowing that day

Could you hear anything?

No, the thunder was silent. But, in the distance a raging cry for help

Displaying dominance

What else do you remember?

A roar and then the hunt ended, only after I traveled a long distance

The wilted beast

What did you do?

I exposed more of my skin to the air

Texas

What happened first?

the horses showed impulsion

Where was he at the time?

in the desert with an eagerness to move forward

How did he die?

consumption, from the blooms of the saguaro

How did she die?

mass hysteria and a loss of faith

What else do you remember?

a temptation for distress
